Sol protest camp in Madrid hit by assault and far-right incident
Original: sol
The protest camp at Madrid's Puerta del Sol is facing a turbulent stretch. Police report a young detainee with a history of serious offences allegedly sexually assaulted a woman sleeping at the camp. Separately, a group of far-right ultras tried to force their way into the encampment, shouting insults at Sánchez, giving fascist salutes and chanting 'Cara al Sol'. Organisers say the camp is now preparing to expand from Sol into Madrid's neighbourhoods, aiming to keep momentum alive.
Why now: Recent violence and far-right provocations at the Madrid encampment have drawn fresh attention to it.
