US immigration raid targets congresswoman Ilhan Omar's home
Original: US launches immigration raid of Democratic congresswoman Ilhan Omar's home
US immigration authorities carried out a raid at the home of Ilhan Omar, a Democratic congresswoman from Minnesota, according to a Reuters report. The operation is drawing intense attention because Omar is a sitting member of Congress, a Somali-American refugee who came to the US as a child, and a prominent critic of the Trump administration's immigration policies. Details about any charges or arrests have not yet been confirmed.
Why now: Immigration enforcement against a sitting member of Congress is unprecedented and politically explosive.
