US immigration authorities raid Ilhan Omar's home
Original: US immigration authorities raid Democratic congresswoman Ilhan Omar's home
US immigration authorities raided the home of Ilhan Omar, a Democratic congresswoman representing Minnesota. The raid on a sitting member of Congress is highly unusual, and the reported details of the operation remain limited. Omar, a Somali refugee who became a US citizen, has been a prominent critic of the Trump administration's hardline immigration policies, and the action is likely to intensify political conflict over federal enforcement tactics.
Why now: The dramatic use of immigration enforcement against a sitting congresswoman and prominent political opponent is a major and politically charged story.
