Calls Grow to Denaturalize Representative Ilhan Omar
Original: Push to denaturalize Ilhan Omar
A campaign to denaturalize US Representative Ilhan Omar is drawing attention, with critics pushing for a review of her citizenship and supporters condemning the effort as a politically motivated attack on a Somali-born naturalized American. The push has reignited debate over the limits of denaturalization powers and the treatment of immigrant lawmakers in US politics.
Why now: Because renewed political pressure to strip Ilhan Omar of her citizenship is a contentious and high-profile development in US politics.
