Original: Burnham: Iran’s IRGC ‘highly likely’ to be behind RAF Fairford terror plot
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has said Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is 'highly likely' to have been behind an alleged terror plot targeting RAF Fairford, the US air base in Gloucestershire. His comments point the finger at Tehran over a plot on British soil, adding to pressure on the government to respond to Iranian activity in the UK and likely intensifying debate about UK-Iran relations.
Why now: A senior British politician is publicly accusing Iran's IRGC of involvement in a UK terror plot, a serious geopolitical allegation.
