South calls North: De Luca's centre-right choice resonates

Original: sud chiama nord

Naples governor Vincenzo De Luca's decision to align with the centre-right is drawing reactions across Italian politics. Commentators in the south are framing it as the south calling to the north, with Sicilian figures like Varchi welcoming the move and saying they expect a similar synthesis of forces in Sicily. The episode fuels debate over regional political realignments.

Why now: De Luca's unexpected shift to the centre-right has sparked discussion about whether similar centrist-right syntheses will spread to other southern regions like Sicily.
