Pentagon launches new office to speed up drone procurement
Original: The Pentagon’s drone revolution: inside the new DRPM-UxS office dismantling military bureaucracy
The Pentagon has set up a new office, the Direct Reporting Program Manager for Unmanned Systems (DRPM-UxS), aimed at overhauling how the US military acquires and fields drones. Reporting describes the effort as an attempt to cut through procurement bureaucracy and get unmanned systems to troops faster. The initiative is being watched closely by defense analysts and drone industry figures amid ongoing debates over US drone production and battlefield lessons from Ukraine.
Why now: The US military is under pressure to fix slow drone acquisition, and a dedicated office signals a significant shake-up.
