The attempted terrorist attack on RAF Fairford, a British air base used by American troops and jets, was almost certainly directed by Iran and the IRGC, according to UK officials. The claim is drawing attention because the suspects were reportedly released by police, prompting criticism over why they are not in custody. The base's role hosting US forces is fuelling debate about security and the response to the incident.

Why now: Officials attributed the attack to Iran while the suspects were reportedly released, a combination sparking outrage and debate.
