US immigration agents raid home of congresswoman Ilhan Omar
Original: US immigration raids home of Somali-American congresswoman Ilhan Omar
US immigration authorities reportedly raided the home of Ilhan Omar, the Somali-American Democratic congresswoman representing Minnesota. The reported raid, confirmed only by a headline from The Arab Weekly so far, lands amid the Trump administration's intensified immigration enforcement operations and its repeated targeting of Omar, a frequent critic of the president. The development has drawn attention given her status as a sitting member of Congress and a naturalised US citizen.
Why now: The reported raid on a sitting congresswoman's home amid heightened immigration enforcement is an extraordinary and politically charged event.
