In Praise of John Cale, the Superior Velvet
An essay at The Quietus argues that John Cale, the Welsh multi-instrumentalist and founding member of the Velvet Underground, deserves recognition as the band's most distinguished talent. The piece revisits Cale's contributions to the group's avant-garde sound and his subsequent solo and production career, contending his artistry stands above that of his better-known bandmates and inviting readers to reappraise his legacy.
Why now: A newly published appreciative essay is prompting music fans to debate John Cale's standing within the Velvet Underground.
