DHS agents search Ilhan Omar's home in immigration investigation
Original: DHS agents search home of congresswoman Ilhan Omar as part of immigration investigation
Federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security searched the home of Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar as part of an immigration investigation. Few details about the search or its targets have been released so far. Omar, a Somali-born refugee who became a US citizen, has been a prominent Democratic critic of the Trump administration's hard-line immigration policies, making the search politically charged.
Why now: A federal immigration search targeting a sitting member of Congress is highly unusual and politically sensitive.
