Silke Maier-Witt and the RAF's secret years in East Germany

Original: silke maier-witt

Attention is on Silke Maier-Witt, a former Red Army Faction member who fled to East Germany, where the Stasi gave RAF members new identities. ARD is airing the documentary 'Staatsgeheimnis RAF – Terroristen in der DDR', exploring how the East German state sheltered the West German militants, a chapter revived by the broadcast.

Why now: A new ARD history documentary about the RAF's hidden years in East Germany has renewed public interest in Silke Maier-Witt.
