Iowa county supervisor backs independent candidate for Congress
Original: Iowa county supervisor endorses no-party candidate for Congress
A county supervisor in Iowa has endorsed a no-party candidate running for Congress, according to The Gazette. The endorsement hands a minor boost to an independent hopeful challenging the Democratic and Republican nominees, and underscores occasional willingness of local elected officials to cross party lines in a state where Republicans currently dominate federal offices.
Why now: Endorsements of independents are rare in Iowa's partisan congressional races, making this a notable local political story.
