Nepal Flood and GLOF Fears in Gorkha's Budhi Gandaki Raise Climate Alarm
Original: Nepal Flood: Sudan Gurung, Gorkha Budhi Gandaki Climate Change, GLOF
Flooding linked to a glacial lake outburst is reported along the Budhi Gandaki river in Nepal's Gorkha district, with climate change cited as a driving factor. Sudan Gurung, a figure prominent in Nepal's recent youth-led protest movement, is being mentioned in connection with the disaster response and public reaction. Nepalis are voicing concern about the country's vulnerability to glacier-related flooding and the government's preparedness.
Why now: A flood in Gorkha has renewed fears about glacial lake outburst floods as climate change accelerates Himalayan melting.
