French Navy intercepts Russian shadow fleet tanker in Indian Ocean
Original: French Navy intercepts Russian shadow fleet tanker in Indian Ocean #Ukraine French Navy intercepts Russian...
The French Navy has intercepted a tanker believed to be part of Russia's so-called shadow fleet in the Indian Ocean. The vessels, often ageing and weakly insured, are used to move Russian oil in circumvention of Western sanctions imposed after the invasion of Ukraine. The interception shows European navies are now tracking these ships far beyond European waters, underlining the global reach of the sanctions enforcement effort.
Why now: The interception signals a widening of Western efforts to enforce sanctions on Russian oil shipments well outside European waters.
