Archbishop Timothy Broglio, the Ohio-born head of the US military's Catholic archdiocese, is drawing attention after comments about Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter. Broglio said he presided at the funeral of one of Hasan's victims and lamented the attack, but questioned whether the United States should imitate terrorists by barbarically killing its adversaries in a public spectacle.

Why now: Renewed debate over the death penalty for the Fort Hood shooter following Broglio's remarks opposing the execution.
