Maja Chwalińska makes her mark at the Wuhan Open

Original: maja chwalińska

Polish tennis player Maja Chwalińska enjoyed a dream debut at the WTA tournament in Wuhan, winning her opening match in straight sets. She then faced top opposition, including the player who beat Aryna Sabalenka, pushing one match to a deciding tie-break, while another ended with an opponent's withdrawal after 80 minutes on court. Polish outlets also report discussion of the 'absurd expectations' following her success and a decision on her upcoming matches alongside Hubert Hurkacz.

Why now: Chwalińska's strong run and debut at a top WTA event in Wuhan has put the little-known Pole in the tennis spotlight.
