Fans are comparing how classic science fiction shows depicted alien planets. Star Trek: The Original Series gave its worlds a planetary look, while Space: 1999 often presented them with a swirling, lava-lamp-like appearance. The contrast has drawn amused commentary and jokes from viewers revisiting the retro effects of both series.
Why now: Nostalgia and affectionate mockery of 1960s-70s TV special effects remain popular topics among science fiction fans.
