Original: Star Trek TOS planets looked like, well, planets. Space: 1999 planets looked like Lava Lamps. 📺 # TV # ScienceFiction #
Television fans are revisiting the visual effects of classic sci-fi, noting that the original Star Trek series depicted planets as realistic-looking worlds, while Space: 1999 opted for swirling, lava-lamp-like imagery. The comparison highlights how differently 1960s and 1970s productions approached low-budget model and matte work, and has sparked light discussion about retro science fiction production design.
