Yacht rock framed as a musical escape from the noise
Original: Beth Ann Rosica: Yacht rock — a musical escape from the noise
Beth Ann Rosica has written a piece celebrating yacht rock, arguing the smooth 1970s and 1980s soft-rock sound offers listeners a break from today's constant noise and stress. The essay reflects on why the mellow genre continues to resonate decades later, presenting it as comfort music for people seeking a calmer escape.
Why now: Nostalgia for smooth soft-rock and its reputation as easy listening keep the genre a talking point.
