Spain's King and Queen visit Ceuta amid protocol debate

Original: visita del rey a ceuta

The Spanish royal couple's visit to Ceuta is drawing attention in Spain, with discussion focused on Queen Letizia's role. Protocol expert María José Gómez Verdú said the Queen will not travel to Ceuta as a mere guest, but will bring a focus on people that should not be mistaken for political intervention. The trip comes amid sensitivity over royal visits to the Spanish north African enclave.

Why now: Royal visits to Ceuta carry political sensitivity over the enclave's status, prompting debate about the Queen's role.
