Fixing the Army's MDMP Fixation
Original: Fixing the Army’s MDMP Fixation
The US Army's Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP) is under scrutiny, with critics arguing the service has become overly reliant on a rigid, staff-heavy planning procedure. The argument is that this fixation slows decision-making and undermines adaptability in modern combat, where speed and mission command matter more than exhaustive, centralized planning. Observers are debating whether the Army should reform its planning doctrine to better fit contemporary warfare.
Why now: Ongoing debates over Army doctrine and lessons from recent conflicts have renewed criticism of the Army's planning process.
