New interactive piece traces generative art back to caves
Original: This cool interactive visual argues that generative art began in a cave
Fast Company has published an interactive visual essay arguing that generative art — art produced through systems, rules or processes rather than direct handcraft — has origins far older than modern computing, pointing to patterns found in prehistoric cave art. The piece walks readers through the argument using animated, hands-on graphics. It is drawing attention for its fresh framing of a technology-associated art form as something tens of thousands of years old.
Why now: Fast Company's interactive essay offers a surprising reframing of generative art at a time when AI-generated art is a hot topic.
