Ian McKellen to appear in UK mixed reality play without being present

Original: Ian McKellen to star in UK premiere of ‘mixed reality’ play – but not in person https://www. theguardian.com/stage/2026/

Ian McKellen is set to star in the UK premiere of the 'mixed reality' play An Ark in Manchester, but will not appear in person, with his performance presented through the production's mixed reality technology instead. The news, reported by the Guardian, is drawing attention from theatre fans, with debate about what the staging means for live performance.

Why now: The novelty of a major actor starring in a stage show via mixed reality rather than in person is striking to theatre audiences
