Congregation seeks museum home for Nevelson worship art
Original: Louise Nevelson designed a work of art and of worship. Now, as its congregation downsizes, it is seeking a museum home.
A chapel interior designed by sculptor Louise Nevelson as a space of both art and worship is being put up for relocation. With the congregation shrinking, members are searching for a museum willing to take the work and preserve it. The effort raises questions about how to save site-specific religious art when its community of worshippers can no longer sustain it.
Why now: A dwindling congregation is forcing a decision about the fate of a significant Nevelson work, drawing attention from art and Jewish community outlets.
