Commentators are arguing that many established rules across politics, technology and everyday life no longer serve their original purpose and should be formally abandoned rather than quietly ignored. The sentiment, voiced in online discussion, reflects frustration with institutions and norms that critics say have lagged behind social and technological change. Supporters say clinging to defunct standards only breeds cynicism; no specific policy or rule was named in the discussion.
