Special constable Luke Hodgson sacked over stolen carrier bags

Original: special constable luke hodgson sacked

A special constable with West Mercia Police has been dismissed after stealing Sainsbury's carrier bags worth £1.20. Luke Hodgson was sacked following a misconduct hearing, with the case drawing attention because of the trivial value of the goods taken. The Worcester News reported the dismissal, and readers are debating whether the punishment fits such a minor offence.

Why now: The striking contrast between a police officer losing his job and the tiny value of the stolen item is prompting debate over proportionality.
