EU expands migration cooperation with eastern Libya through new funding
The European Union has expanded its migration cooperation with eastern Libya by committing new funding, according to Reuters. The move deepens the bloc's engagement with Libyan authorities in the east as it seeks to curb irregular migration routes across the Mediterranean. The arrangement is likely to draw scrutiny from rights groups and analysts concerned about partner capacity in the region.
Why now: The EU is actively seeking to tighten migration controls along North African routes, making new agreements with Libyan partners newsworthy.
