Fishmeal Factories Leave Foul Stench on Poorer Nations
Original: Foul Fishmeal Factories: The Stench That Rich Nations Leave Behind • The Revelator https://www. flakefood.com/924634/fou
A report by The Revelator examines how fishmeal factories, largely supplying feed for aquaculture and livestock in wealthier countries, impose pollution and overpowering odors on coastal communities in poorer nations. It frames the industry's environmental and public health burdens as a matter of environmental justice, with the costs exported abroad while profits flow to rich consumer markets.
Why now: Environmental justice and ocean conservation concerns are drawing attention to the hidden costs of fishmeal production for wealthy nations.
