A Russian bot is a fake or automated online account run by Kremlin-linked operators posing as ordinary Westerners. Fed by troll farms and increasingly by artificial intelligence, such accounts flood social feeds with divisive posts, amplify conspiracy theories, and manufacture fake grassroots outrage. The goal, observers say, is to erode public trust in elections, NATO and Western institutions.
Why now: Ongoing concern over Russian influence operations amid the war in Ukraine and election-related disinformation fears.
