Formula 1 has agreed a 10-year deal to race in Rwanda, marking the championship's return to Africa. The continent has not hosted a grand prix since South Africa in 1993, so the announcement is being greeted as a major expansion for the sport and a milestone for Rwanda, which has been building its profile as a host of international sporting events.
Why now: The deal ends Formula 1's more than three-decade absence from Africa, a significant development for motorsport fans.
