A24's 'Friday the 13th' Prequel 'Crystal Lake' Draws Mixed Reviews
Original: ‘Crystal Lake’ Review: Over-the-Top Kills Succumb to an Underbaked Story in A24’s ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel
Early reviews are in for 'Crystal Lake,' A24's prequel series to the classic slasher franchise 'Friday the 13th.' Critics acknowledge the show's elaborate, over-the-top kill scenes but fault it for a thin, underdeveloped story that fails to match the spectacle. The assessment suggests the series leans heavily on gore at the expense of narrative depth, leaving reviewers divided on whether it honors the franchise's legacy.
Why now: Reviews of a high-profile prequel to a beloved horror franchise have just been published, prompting discussion among horror fans.
