Iran confirms nationwide internet slowdown
Original: Iran government spokesperson confirms internet slowdown in the country
Iran's government spokesperson has confirmed that internet access in the country has been slowed. The official acknowledgment of throttling comes amid ongoing restrictions on connectivity that Iranians and rights groups have widely reported. Authorities have not given a detailed explanation for the slowdown, which affects users' ability to access websites and online services across the country.
Why now: An official admission of deliberate internet restrictions in Iran is rare and raises concerns about censorship and access to information.
