UN chief proposes slimmer $3.3 billion budget for 2027
Original: ‘Need for UN has never been greater,’ UN chief says, proposing slimmer $3.3 billion budget for 2027
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has proposed a $3.3 billion budget for the organisation for 2027, a reduced figure that reflects financial pressure and ongoing reform efforts. Speaking as the UN marks its 80th anniversary, he argued that the need for the organisation has never been greater, even as member states demand efficiency and leaner spending.
Why now: The UN is under financial strain and facing pressure to reform, making its proposed budget cut newsworthy.
