Chalmers urges against mocking One Nation supporters
Original: Australian politics live: Chalmers urges against mocking, cancelling or talking down to One Nation supporters https://ww
Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers says Labor should not mock, cancel or talk down to One Nation voters, arguing the party must engage with rather than dismiss supporters of Pauline Hanson's right-wing movement. The comments, made as One Nation's poll numbers rise, come alongside debate over the government's gas reservation scheme for the Northern Territory and signal concern within Labor about losing disaffected voters to the populists.
Why now: One Nation's growing support is worrying Labor, prompting senior ministers to rethink how the party talks to its potential voters.
