Honda unveils robot that mirrors human movements for remote work
Original: Avatar comes to life: Honda’s new robot mirrors human movements to work remotely
Honda has introduced a new humanoid-style robot that copies a human operator's movements in real time, allowing a person to carry out tasks remotely through the machine. The system evokes the 'avatar' concept of projecting oneself into a robot body at a distant location, and is being discussed as a step toward remote labor in factories, hazardous sites, and other environments where sending people is difficult or risky.
Why now: Honda's demonstration of real-time remote teleoperation robotics is a striking advance that draws comparisons to sci-fi 'avatar' concepts.
