Conservationists Seek Protection for Mexico's Mud Turtles
Original: Protections Sought for Mexico’s Imperiled Mud Turtles
The Center for Biological Diversity has filed a petition seeking legal protections for Mexico's imperiled mud turtles, whose populations are declining. The move would extend safeguards to the small freshwater species, which face mounting pressure from habitat loss and other threats in Mexican waterways. The petition draws attention to the plight of lesser-known turtle species in North America.
Why now: A new petition for legal protections has put these little-known turtles in the spotlight.
