The electronic duo The Chainsmokers have parted ways with Columbia and Disruptor Records, their longtime label home, according to Billboard. The pair described the move as an uncertain new chapter, saying they have 'no idea what to expect' as they strike out on their own. Industry observers are watching to see whether the split signals plans for independent releases or a new label deal.

Why now: The duo's surprise split from their major label has raised questions about what their next career move will be.
