Monarch butterflies still feeding late in the season
Original: I'm still seeing monarchs! I saw four yesterday that were feasting on New England asters and Mexican sunflowers. # monar
A nature observer in Illinois reported spotting four monarch butterflies feeding on New England asters and Mexican sunflowers, later than many expect to see the migratory species. The sighting was shared with wildlife and photography communities, drawing attention from people following the butterflies' annual migration south to Mexico and ongoing conservation concerns.
Why now: Late-season monarch sightings are notable because the butterflies are normally migrating south by now, and their populations are a popular conservation topic.
