Climate change driving child marriages and teen pregnancies, report finds
Original: Climate change driving child marriages and teen pregnancies
A new report warns that climate change is pushing more girls into child marriages and teen pregnancies. As floods, droughts and other climate shocks impoverish families, some are marrying off daughters early or girls are facing pressure into relationships for survival. The findings highlight how the climate crisis deepens gender inequality, with campaigners calling for greater protection and support for girls in affected communities.
Why now: A newly published report linking the climate crisis to child marriages and teen pregnancies is drawing attention to an under-reported consequence of global warming.
