FEMA denies Illinois storm aid as Flossmoor extends disaster declaration
Original: Flossmoor extends disaster declaration, FEMA denies Illinois storm aid
The village of Flossmoor, Illinois has extended its local disaster declaration following recent storm damage, even as FEMA has denied the state's request for federal disaster aid. The decision leaves communities in the Chicago south suburbs without federal recovery assistance, prompting local officials to continue emergency measures on their own and raising questions about how repairs and cleanup will be funded.
Why now: Residents and local officials are reacting to the loss of expected federal relief money after significant storm damage.
