French schools chief Édouard Geffray in the spotlight amid student unrest

Original: édouard geffray

Édouard Geffray, France's director general for school education, is drawing attention as high school mobilisations continue across the country, with Mediapart covering what students call "act 5" of their protest movement. In Ingré, near Orléans, fireworks mortars were fired inside the Maurice-Genevoix high school during a break between classes, underlining the tension around the nationwide lycée blockades.

Why now: A new wave of high school protests and a violent incident at an Ingré school have put the national education leadership under scrutiny.
