Original: Iran executes monarchist convicted of armed attacks during war, judiciary news outlet says
Iran has executed a man described by the judiciary-linked news outlet as a monarchist who was convicted of carrying out armed attacks during the ongoing war, according to a Reuters report. The execution adds to a series of death penalty cases Iran has pursued against people accused of ties to armed or opposition groups, a practice that has drawn criticism from rights groups and Western governments who question the fairness of such trials.
Why now: Executions of political opponents during the current war are drawing international scrutiny of Iran's judiciary.
