US diplomat leaves Nicaragua after ambassador rejection
Original: diplomat
The United States says its top diplomat in Nicaragua has returned to the US after Nicaragua's government rejected the Trump administration's choice for ambassador. The withdrawal marks another deterioration in already tense relations between Washington and Managua, which have expelled each other's diplomats repeatedly in recent years amid sanctions and disputes over elections and human rights.
Why now: Nicaragua's rejection of the US ambassador nominee is a fresh sign of worsening US-Nicaragua relations.
