UNEP Highlights Its Environment Fund
Original: Environment Fund
The UN Environment Programme is drawing attention to its Environment Fund, the core financial mechanism that supports its global environmental work. The fund finances UNEP's efforts on climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, but it relies on voluntary contributions from member states. Attention to the fund comes amid ongoing debates about whether international environmental bodies receive adequate, stable funding to meet growing ecological challenges.
Why now: Ongoing concern over whether the UN has sufficient resources to tackle global environmental crises.
