Formula 1 fans in Italy are voicing hope that young driver Kimi Antonelli will become the country's next world champion. No Italian has won the drivers' title since Alberto Ascari in 1953, and supporters see Antonelli, racing for Mercedes, as the best chance to end a drought now in its 73rd year.

Why now: Antonelli's emergence as a top-flight Italian driver has reignited hopes of a first Italian champion since 1953.
