Doubts raised over Trump's lawsuit against the BBC

Commentators are questioning Donald Trump's legal strategy in suing the BBC over material that was not, and could not credibly have been, seen or broadcast in the United States. The argument being made is that jurisdictional weaknesses in the case, combined with a likely 'reasonable comment' defence, may leave the president and his advisors on shaky legal ground, prompting speculation about whether they are reconsidering the approach.

Why now: Trump's lawsuit against the BBC is seen as legally weak on jurisdictional grounds, sparking debate about its viability.

Evidence

• I do hope that Trump (or his ‘advisors’) are beginning to doubt the approach they have taken in suing the BBC for material that was not (or could not without deliberate evasion) be seen in the US. And that is before a ‘reasonable comment’ defence. https://www.… · Wen@mastodon.scot · 8
