Trump says massive oil and gas exploration to begin in Greenland
Original: us gas exploration greenland
President Donald Trump has announced that 'massive' oil, gas and mineral exploration is set to begin in Greenland. The statement reignites long-standing controversy over resource extraction on the Danish autonomous island, where exploration has previously been restricted and where a majority of Greenlanders oppose US control. Denmark and Greenland's governments have yet to respond to the announcement.
Why now: The US president's announcement about exploiting Greenland's natural resources is new and politically explosive, touching on Arctic competition and Greenland's sovereignty.
