UN Security Council Adopts Resolution on Haiti Sanctions
Original: Following the Adoption of a UN Security Council Resolution on Haiti Sanctions
The UN Security Council has adopted a resolution imposing sanctions on Haiti, a move announced by the United States Mission to the United Nations following the vote. The measure targets individuals and entities fueling gang violence and instability in Haiti, where armed groups have taken control of large parts of the capital and the government has appealed for international support.
Why now: The Security Council rarely imposes sanctions on a country in the Americas, and Haiti's worsening gang crisis has made international action a live topic.
