France moves to dissolve Alain Soral's association

Original: alain soral

French authorities are seeking the dissolution of Égalité et Réconciliation, the association founded by controversial essayist Alain Soral. Officials cite hate speech and apology for Nazism as grounds for the move, which was reported by Swiss newspaper Le Temps. The far-right group, long a fixture of France's dissident scene, now faces a legal battle over its very existence, drawing attention across French-speaking media.

Why now: The French state's unprecedented move to shut down Soral's organisation has sparked debate over free speech and extremism.
